Turn

November 21, 2014

There are so many directions in life. Where do we go? What choices do we make? In all things is it entirely up to me. I can choose to turn away, or to turn aside when I see something I don’t like. I can choose to turn toward it and lend a helping hand to those in need.

Turning… left or right or around. It is all in my power. Do I chose one path then regret the one not taken? What then is the pattern of my life to be?

Turning… turning… If life were so simple as to be directed by signs as a car is in traffic, would it be as interesting? Not as filled with wonder, I think. Because there are no “No Left Turn” signs in life, we are left to our choices. And choice is what makes life worth while.

Turning… turning… turning… Perhaps we could liken it to a marching band, sharply turning to the left or to the right at the direction of an unseen drum major. Many people are directed in life: by parents, by loved ones, by financial obligations or emotional ones. The question being do we turn to meet the challenge or do we turn away? Do I choose to march to the beat of my own drum, or stay with the band and its harmony?

Turning… turning… turning… turning… the world keeps turning and spinning on its axis, revolving day by day. And in all of this, day after day, whether I realize it or not, I can never turn away from myself. For no matter where I go, there I am. Turning… turning… turning… turning… turning.
