Summit Unitarian Universalist Fellowship found itself in need of a new website shortly after I joined them. I recommended the church switch from Joomla to WordPress because it was easier to add multiple people work on the content together. I created several color schemes for the initial design and the current colors of desert and sky were settled upon.
I provided a couple different layouts and the outreach child theme for Genesis was settled on. Since you cannot create a child theme of a child theme, I took the outreach theme and modified it. I added custom image support for the slideshow, specialized excerpts, and a couple custom plugins.
I also added a custom javascript for the directory pages to change the size of images on the page to make them more visible. The custom script was incorporated rather than “fixing” the plugin that generates the HTML. This way the plugin can be updated with no consequence to the site. I continue to work and improve the technical aspects of the site. The rest of the Website committee is involved with creating and updating the content.
